MILWAUKEE (AP) - Children's Hospital of Wisconsin says a 15-year-old Chicago boy who underwent the state's first pediatric heart-and-liver transplant was released Tuesday.

Doctors say Thomas Castillo was born with congenital heart disease and, as a result, suffered liver failure.

After suffering a stroke in February, Thomas' grandparents, Santos Morin and Linda Rebeles, say they started to lose hope about their grandson's condition. The teen has been receiving care at Children's Hospital since 2009.

Then, on Feb. 29 a team of physicians at Children's performed the rare heart-liver transplant. And, less than two months later, Thomas was ready to go home. WTMJ says one of the surgeons joked with Thomas as he was discharged, telling him to keep wearing the same shirt he had on — a Green Bay Packers shirt.
