NEWCASTLE, Calif. (CNN/KTXL) - Meet Bella, whose leg had to be amputated after complications developed after she fell into a gopher hole.

"She started getting an infection in that damaged leg even though we were binding it and totally securing it," said owner Trish Brandt-Robuck.

Soon Bella's owners had a decision to make.

"It was the decision of either we have to euthanize her or put her down," said Brandt-Robuck. So they had her leg amputated. But soon after, Bella's health began to degrade. Their vet suggested a prosthesis. Now Bella is up and walking on all fours, and the prognosis is good.

The company that made the prosthetic is the same company known for making a new tail fin for a dolphin.
