MIAMI (AP) — Carlotta has grown from a tropical storm to a full-blown hurricane as it moves toward southern Mexico's Pacific coast.

A hurricane warning is in effect Friday for Mexico's coast from Punta Maldonado to Acapulco.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm's maximum sustained winds Friday morning are near 80 mph (130 kph).

Rapid strengthening is forecast as Carlotta approaches the coast.

The hurricane's center is about 120 miles (195 kilometers) south-southeast of Puerto Angel and 330 miles (530 kilometers) southeast of Acapulco.
