MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Sean has weakened slightly as it picks up speed and continues to move over the Atlantic, kicking up choppy surf and gusty winds on Bermuda.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Friday that Sean had maximum sustained winds of 60 mph (95 kph). It was about 95 miles (155 km) west-northwest of Bermuda and moving northeast at 22 mph (35 kph).
A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Bermuda, which is expected to see 1 to 3 inches of rainfall. Little change in strength is expected before Sean is absorbed by a frontal system Friday night or Saturday.
Swells generated by the storm also are affecting the southeastern U.S. coast with life-threatening surf and rip currents. The swells should subside in a day or two.
Two cheetah cubs have been transported to the National Zoo to be raised by hand.
