At Medical Weight Loss Centers, they are dedicated to helping you lose weight and maintaining a healthy weight for life.

For the majority of their patients, being overweight is a symptom of a chronic medical illness, which is often inherited and will never go away. Similar to diabetes; you can lose weight just as a diabetic can get their blood sugar under control, but then you must manage the illness day by day to help avoid regaining all the weight you have lost.

Our patient today is a nurse on a bariatric surgery floor. She opted to try medical weight loss (versus surgical) because she wants to be a power of example to her patients. She realizes that the surgical option, for some, is a life-saving choice. But for her, she knew that she had to change her thinking and lifestyle and not just her anatomy, if she were to lose and maintain the weight loss permanently. Medical Weight Loss Centers helped restore her hope, health and happiness (without the scars!).

Weight loss isn’t just about looking better. If you’re one of the nearly 130 million U.S. adults who are overweight or obese, you may be putting your health in jeopardy. Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death (after smoking), and can raise your risks of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, gout, asthma, and even gum disease.

James Mansfield is a 49 year old male who was referred to MWLC by his doctor due to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar. James was on two blood pressure medications.

Andy Rodican at MWLC discovered that James had high tryglideride and bad cholesterol numbers, and that he was insulin resistant. Within 3 weeks of starting the MWLC program, blood pressure improved, going from 140/78 to 102/60. Tryglicerides and cholesterol also improved.

His goals were to get healthy, and to extend his life. He's definitely on his way to meeting those goals. His start weight was 240 lbs. His goal weight is 180 lbs. James is averaging a 4 lb weight loss per week.

The folks from Medical Weight Loss Centers say there are questions you should ask when you are choosing a weight loss program.

1. Do you specialize in obesity and obesity treatment?

2. Have you received advanced training or education in the treatment of obesity? Is your training current?

3. What kind of initial patient workup do you perform?

4. What kind of diets do you promote? Have you received special training in monitoring patients on these diets?

Submit your questions for future Connecticut Style appearances by filling out the form to the right.
