Man charged in New Britain carjacking involving 2 children

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) - A man is facing charges for his alleged role in a carjacking that involved two children inside of the vehicle.

According to police, on May 20th, officers responded to the area of 345 Columbus Boulevard in New Britain for a report of a carjacking.

Police say the vehicle was taken by force and two children aged 7 and 3 were inside.

The children were not harmed and they were left by the suspects on a city street.

Officials say 18-year-old Jonathon Vellon was one of the suspects involved. He has an active warrant charging him with kidnapping in the second degree, robbery by carjacking and other related charges.

Vellon is currently incarcerated on an unrelated charge.

Police say more arrests are anticipated.
