Car crashes into Wendy's restaurant in Milford

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH)-- A minivan crashed into a Wendy's restaurant in Milford Friday morning.

The Milford Fire Department tells News 8 that they responded to a report of a vehicle hitting a Wendy's at 433 Old Gate Lane in the Pilot Travel Center.  Police say the driver sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The car hit the corner of the restaurant near the drive-thru. A portion of the brick facade crumbled. A building inspector with the City told News 8 that the damage was superficial and the building itself is sound.

Across the street at a Dunkin Donuts, manager Tamara Kurmay said the accident happened during their morning rush.

"One of my employees was saying what's that horn? Somebody shut their horn off. So, then she's like where's the bang? We didn't hear a bang or anything so then I look up and I see a lady at Wendy's running around her van with, holding her head, her hands on her head. I didn't know what happened. I looked at the building and I was like, oh, she must have hit it," said Kurmay.

Equipment was brought in to clear the debris. The inspector said the restaurant was set to reopen for dinner.
