MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Summer is officially here and so is the summer weather, spurring residents to head to the beach.
"Swimming, sitting down in the shade, running and all kinds of stuff," said 10-year-old Christopher Morales, "a little water, eating fruit."
With temperatures soaring into the 90's beach-goers made sure to stay cool while soaking up the sun.
"Just trying to keep cool for the most part," said Steven Carrion, of Milford. "Get the tent up, get the kid underneath it and get in the water afterward."
"Umbrella, sun tan lotion, umbrella, just stay in the shade then go cool off every once in a while," said Edward Morales, of Milford.
Towns and cities got creative when it came to keeping residents cool Wednesday, in Bridgeport cooling and water stations were set up at a bus terminal.
"Drinking a lot of water, go into places I know have AC," said Charles Satawhite, of Bridgeport. "The buses they have AC, I might take a bus ride off and on."
In East Haven there was a splash pad for kids.
"Oh it's fantastic," said Andrea Tullo, of East Haven, "what a great thing they did here."
"When it's a really hot day out you can go in the water and cool off and it's really fun," said 10-year-old Julianna Tenegre, "and it will cool you off so you don't get dehydrated or anything."
The theme of the day was water, water and more water, whether it was for drinking or swimming in it.
"It gets a little toasty when sitting in the sun," said Aviva Doery, of Milford, "so even just putting your feet in the water is really nice."
