DANBURY, Conn. (WTNH)-- A Danbury dad goes before a judge Wednesday accused of killing his youngest son, just 19 months old. Police say he was caring for the toddler when he died of head injuries.
Christian Williams stood before a judge accused of the unthinkable, killing his own 19-month-old son.
Friends can't believe it .
"He is a very good guy, he is very gentle. He is an awesome father," said Tracy Escoriban, a friend.
Family shielded the child's grieving mother as she left the court house.
Danbury police are charging the 25-year-old father with manslaughter, saying he was caring for his son at the time of the toddler's injury and death.
The little boy was found unresponsive at 16 Housman Street on Sunday. The cause of death was blunt force trauma.
But, his defense lawyer says there are cell phone pictures texted to the mother which show no visible injures to the child hours before his death. Images she says can clear her client.
"There no physical manifestation, no external physical manifestation on the child, when the child was taken to the hospital. So he has no idea what happened to the child," said Vicki Hutchinson.
The court has sealed the police documents in this case so right now only the judge and lawyers know what the case is against the dad.
"It's very hard to associate the crime with this guy," said Escoriban.
This father not only accused of killing his child, but ordered to stay away from his other son just 3-years-old.
Held on $850,000 bond, Williams is due back in court October 16th.
