NORTH BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police are searching for a man wanted for robbing a gas station in North Branford and fighting with two workers in the parking lot while attempting to flee the scene.
The incident happened shortly after 7:30 p.m., at an independent gas station located at 208 Foxon Rd., near the Connecticut Sports Plex.
When police arrived on the scene they found an injured employee in the parking area and were given details of the incident.
Police were told that an average height and clean shaven white man entered the store and requested lottery tickets. At that time, one clerk was behind the counter and another was in the parking area.
Once the cash drawer was opened, the man placed his hand inside his jacked, declared a robbery and said that he had a handgun. When the clerk hesitated the man told him if he didn't turn over the cash from the register he'd be shot.
An undetermined amount of money was then given to the man who fled out the door towards an unoccupied car parked alongside the building. The counter clerk chased the man and alerted the other employee who was nearby. The two attempted to stop the man and a fight broke out. One of the employees was struck in the face.
The man then fled the scene in a vehicle, and as it entered Foxon Rd., it nearly collided with a passing motorist.
The vehicle was last seen heading towards East Haven on Foxon Rd. The vehicle is described as an older Honda Civic, possibly four-door, with partial CT license plate 989OZ_.
The clerk who was injured was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment.
Anyone who has any information regarding the incident is asked to contact the North Branford Police Detective Division at 203-484-2703.
