Stamford, Conn. (WTNH) - A burglar entered a sleeping Stamford house, but was caught when the homeowner woke up.
There were some frightening moments for a family in Stamford after a man allegedly broke into their house early Monday morning.
Police say the burglar gained entry into the house through the garage door. He found the garage door opener in the unlocked minivan parked out front.
"I live down around the block, so alarming and scary," said Roseanne McManus.
The details of what police say 35-year-old Larry Bowman, Jr. did once inside the house are really disturbing.
He first creeped into the bedroom where two girls, ages 9 and 12, were sleeping. Luckily the girls didn't wake up while he was going through their stuff.
He then moved onto the parent's room where the mom awoke up to see Bowman rifling through a closet, that's when she screamed.
"The husband wakes up sees this guy at the end of the bed, he gets out of bed and chases him out of the house," said Sgt. Andrew Gallagher.
An officer on patrol spotted the chase and arresting the suspect a short time later.
Police suspect he had been breaking into parked cars stealing GPSs, radar detectors and only when he got his hands on the garage door opener did it turn into a house break in.
"Obviously he is a very dangerous individual. It's a huge leap to go from go from going into cars to actually going into peoples houses, so happy this man is in custody," Sgt. Gallagher said.
