HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)-- A man was killed and a woman was shot twice in a home in a quiet Hartford neighborhood, early Sunday.
Khadra Baker thought it was thunder waking her up.
"It was a few booms but I didn't, like I said it was lightning and thunder, so I wasn't sure what it was," said Baker.
It was gunshots and when it was over, a 30-year-old Manchester man was dead, and a 34-year-old Hartford woman was shot twice.
Violence and crime tape is very unusual for quiet Durham Street where folks keep neat lawns and know their neighbors.
"Yeah, stuff doesn't happen over here. I'm surprised because I have kids, like stuff doesn't happen over here at all," said Baker. "I was surprised when I seen it out here."
"It's a very off the beaten path, small residential street, very quiet, very rare. Certainly, I don't think I've been there five times in my career, so certainly odd for that neighborhood," said Lt Brian Foley, Hartford Police Department.
The female survivor was taken to St. Francis Medical Center and despite taking two bullets, investigators are talking to her, determining if she has information that could be crucial to tracking down whoever pulled the trigger.
"At this point, detectives say this likely was not a random shooting, however not sharing any possible motive for the killing," said Foley.
Their Sunday morning shattered by gunfire left neighbors to question if problems usually confined to Hartford trouble spots are now creeping to quieter corners.
"They need to do something, it's ridiculous and getting worse," said Baker.
