WEST HAVEN. Conn. (WTNH)-- Tens of thousands of dollars worth of illegal fireworks were taken from a home and a truck in West Haven, and even more fireworks were seized in Madison.
One of the men arrested is a New Haven firefighter.
Forty three-year-old Robert Crisco, a New Haven firefighter, faced a judge in Milford Superior Court accused of selling a large amount of illegal fireworks.
West Haven police say they busted Crisco, and Luigio Zaccariellio at a home where Zaccariello lives.
"The Connecticut State Police crime stopper anonymous tip line received information that there was a large cache of fireworks being sold out of an address in West Haven. The forwarded the information to us," said Sgt. David Tammaro, West Haven police.
Police say they took about $2,000 cash and tens of thousand of dollars worth of illegal fireworks. They even had a truck filled with them.
A neighbor says he's never noticed a lot of activity there.
"I don't know what gets into people. Their money is more important than children's safety," said the neighbor. When told one of the men arrested is a New Haven firefighter, he said, "oh, that's shocking."
Other neighbors say they are not surprised by this arrest. In fact, on many occasions they say Zaccariello would light off fireworks from his deck to scare the dogs in the neighborhood.
Police and neighbors say it's upsetting because children live there, where dangerous fireworks were being stored.
"They were commercial grade fireworks, they are not the firework sparklers. They are extremely dangerous," said Tammaro.
Crisco posted his $20,000 bond. He will be back in court July 17th.
Also, while at the West Haven home, police were led to a home in Madison where they arrested 54-year-old Matthew Hagan.
