MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A suspect is dead after a state trooper apparently interrupted a robbery at a Milford gas station.
It all happened around 3:30 Wednesday morning at a gas station on the Boston Post Road. Police say it was by happenstance, the trooper was on his routine over night rounds and walked into an armed robbery.
The suspect is now dead.

"Saw all the police there... everything else. It's pretty sad," said Domin.
Police escorted a car towed away from Patriot Fuels in Milford and snapped photos too.
Police say around 3:00 Wednesday morning, a trooper unknowingly walked into a gas station while it was getting robbed.
"He confronted a subject inside the station at which time the subject failed to comply with his directives and he was forced to discharge his weapon," said Msgt Donna Tadiello, State police.
She says the suspect died on scene. The trooper went to the hospital for minor injuries. The clerk was unharmed.
"I was like wow. I couldn't believe it," said Charles Poisella.
Charles Poisella works in the area and says he thinks the location makes it a prime target for criminals.
"Its right off the highway, where I work is right off the highway too...so you never know," said Charles Poisella.
Domin works right across the street from there and says she's seen break-ins along there, but never an armed robbery.
"It makes me feel good to know that the police were right on it," said Domin.
State police would not reveal where the suspect was shot and they're planning not to reveal their identity for another couple of days after an autopsy is performed.
