SHERMAN, Conn. (WTNH) - State Police searched a house in Sherman Wednesday, where a wife and mother disappeared nearly three decades ago.
After 27 years of grief and anger there is now a wave of melancholy hope for two sisters who have lived most of their lives wondering what happened to their mom.
"It's like what can I do to break this case," said Beth Profeta, daughter, "or bring her home. I mean, I'll go dig her up myself."
In 1984, 38-year-old Mary Badaracco disappeared from the home she shared with her husband Dominic Badaracco and his son Joseph.
On Wednesday State Police served a warrant and searched that very home again, all these years later.
It is unknown what, if anything, was found in the home, but Mary's daughters say they will not give up until they have justice, and their mother.
The sisters have always suspected their stepfather Dominic, and say they saw abuse before their mother disappeared.
"Something bad happened in that house, between her and her husband at the time and they hid her," said Sherrie Passaro, daughter. "She was killed and he hid her, and then refuses to tell the truth."
For more than a year a grand jury has been hearing testimony in the case, but there is still no word of any imminent arrest.
Now Mary's daughters are hoping that after all these years they may finally find their mother and lay her to rest.
"Is today the day," said Passaro. "And then I try to talk myself out of it and not to think that way because it's been 27 years of thinking is today the day? So it was a hard day actually."
Mary Badaracco's husband Dominic still lives in the house that was searched Wednesday.
