Gunfire broke out just before one o'clock in the morning Friday in Hamden. According to witnesses, a rowdy crowd filled the parking lot at Slyce Pizza bar on Arch Street before gunfire went off. Bullets piercedcars, and shattered windows.
Detectives say at least three gunmen fired multiple rounds striking the restaurant and vehicles in the parking lot, including
a home with children inside where one person was sleeping.
Residents describe the scene like the Wild West.
"A lot of police cars and lights it was kind of scary," said Benjamin Charles.
"It's not the first time we've had a shooting in this area we've had several actually,” said resident Chris Latorraca. “It's not the way the area used to be."
Neighbors say the violence in their neighborhood has escalated.
"It's really bad. It's a sad thing,” Arthur Cooper said.
"It's scary because this is a nice place and it seems like the wrong crowd comes over here and messes everything up," said Hansell Anes.
"Maybe in the future things will get better but until then we will just have to hope," said Hamden resident Bryan Short.
