NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A New Haven family has high praise for police after an arrest is made in the murder of a loved one. But a father is also grieving the loss of a son killed in the prime of his life.
So thankful for an arrest a father is brought to tears.
"When you go to sleep, you ain't got to wake up in the morning and say did you find him, you already have him, you all did a great job," said John Stevenson, Anthony Stevenson's Father.
He lost his son, 49-year-old Anthony Stevenson, after police say 44-year-old Semmion Watson pulled a knife on him, stabbed him several times, and left him to die in Watson's Spring Street apartment.
"We believe it was an argument between two people who knew each other," said Assistant Chief Achilles Generoso.
Around 10:30 Saturday night, police got a phone call they believe was Anthony saying he was stabbed in the area of Washington Avenue and Spring Street.
It was the only location given.
Chief Generoso say they tried tracking his cell phone, five officers scoured streets. But, they didn't find him until another 911 call came in 9 hours later from someone in the neighborhood.
"We're critiquing this incident and we're going to find out if in fact we could have done anything else," said Generoso.
The family is going through two emotions. They say they're grateful for the police response, as Watson was arrested 36 hours after the bloody crime. Officer Joseph Roberts spotted him on patrol.
But they're coping with deep grief, saying Anthony had a good heart and was a hard worker.
"We're very proud of him and not only that his job, they said it was a great loss. His job appreciated him. As a matter of fact they say he was one of his best workers," said Rosalyn McKinnie, Stevenson's Sister.
Now Watson is waiting to be arraigned for his murder.
