High school students speak with Congresswoman DeLauro on gun violence

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) - Some Connecticut school kids got the chance to talk about gun violence with their representative.

Congresswoman Rose DeLauro held a student town hall on gun violence on Monday night at West Haven High School.

Kids from all over the area were invited.

The congresswoman says she was there to listen.

"I'm heartened by their tenacity, by their engagement, and how bright and smart they are. And we need to follow their lead," Rep. DeLauro said.

"This is such a central issue to everybody regardless of political affiliation," stated Hopkins School freshman Sophie Sonnenfeld. "This is something that has to be addressed. And we have to be meeting with people in power and having these discussions."

The congresswoman says she has been moved by the passion stirred in kids from Connecticut and around the country after the school shooting in Florida.
