TRUMBULL, Conn. (WTNH) - Animal control officials want to know how a dozen rabbits endedup dead at a park in Trumbull.
The rabbits were found Friday morning at Twin Brooks Park.
"Found 8 bodies, dead bodies and then actually a little bitlater, about an hour or so later, we got a call, another call fromthe park that there was a live rabbit," said Lynn Dellabianca,Trumbull Animal Control Officer.
A few hours later, four more dead rabbits were discovered alongwith two other live ones. The surviving rabbits are in bad shape,explained Mandy Doyle, Cottontail Rabbit Rescue.
"She has sores on the bottoms of all her feet and urine scold,pretty much on the whole bottom of her," Doyle said.
Dellabianca believes the rabbits were not pets, rather raisedfor their meat.
"Rabbits also are becoming pretty popular to raise as foodbecause obviously people need to have a bit of protein and rabbitsare pretty quiet and you can raise them in your backyard without awhole lost of trouble or notice," she said.
There may be more rabbits running around the area. They'relarger than the native cottontails we have and may not be in goodhealth.
