Westport, Conn. (WTNH) - Help has arrived from out of state to aid in the effort to find one couple's missing 11-year-old Corgi from Westport.
The search for 11-year-old Andy has been a community-wide effort, and now it's extended out of state with canine units from Nebraska coming to join in the search effort.
The dogs have arrived to help find Fairfield county's most well-known missing dog. They arrived from Nebraska yesterday and have been sniffing out areas where Andy has been spotted ever since.
And how does it work? The dogs smell Andy's collar and then head off into the woods to follow his scent.
"This is a complicated scenario," said Karin Tarqwin, missing dog specialist from Nebraska, "Andy went missing a few weeks ago. The goal is to, just like in a missing persons case, you're going to be able to gather information and evidence."
Their sniffs have confirmed Andy is somewhere in Norwalk.
"Had the hopes that it was going to bring us that much further and like Karin says it's confirming he has been here," said Andy's owner Michael Ghiggeri. "We are on the right track, so of course that makes us feel good that we're not on a wild goose chase."
And, once again, it's a community that's made this possible raising more than $7,500 to get the search dogs on the case.
"Simply amazing, it really is amazing how encouraging people are," Ghiggeri said. "People want Andy found almost more than we do it seems, so it's good feelings, a very good feeling."
If you do live in the Norwalk/Westport area be sure to check under any porches or in any sheds because Andy has been known to hide there.
If you spot Andy, immediately call 781-264-5243.
