Canton, Conn. (WTNH) - A girl is suffering from critical injuries after she was hit bya car crossing Dowd Avenue in Canton, Tuesday evening, with herfather. The car sped away and police are now looking foranswers.
Neighbors say a red sports car, believed to be a BMW orMercedes, flew around the corner and hit the seven-year-old girljust around 5:30 p.m.
The car did not stop, according to those on scene.
"The car did flee the scene. We are looking for any witnessesthat were in the area. Only description we have at this point is ared vehicle that fled Eastbound heading toward Route 44," said Dep.Chief Donald Hull of the Canton Police Department.
A red piece of the car could be seen lying on the groundalongside the girl's shoes.
Police had closed the road with caution tape as theyinvestigated the scene for hours.
Neighbors say it is not uncommon for cars to travel that roadwayat high speeds.
"The traffic moves a little quickly around here," said AaronKiae of Canton.
Police say the girl remains at Hartford Hospital with criticalinjuries.
