NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A car struck two pedestrians and then proceeded to slam into another car on Thursday morning, police say.
State police say two people were outside a disabled vehicle on Route 72 eastbound when they were hit by another vehicle.
The incident happened at around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
As a result of the impact, the two pedestrians were thrown over a guardrail and into a grassy area.
One of the pedestrians was reported to be in critical condition and was rushed to St. Francis Hospital.
The second pedestrian was also sent to St. Francis Hospital for a non-life threatening leg injury.
Sabrina L. Hughes, 29, was driving a Mercury Mystique that directly hit two people and another vehicle.
That car then smashed into the vehicle that the pedestrians had exited from, causing both vehicles to roll over.
Debris from that collision struck the front driver's side of a third vehicle as a result.
Hughes sustained a laceration to her head and was transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the third vehicle involved was not injured.
The road had been closed for nearly two hours and the accident remains under investigation.
