BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (WTNH)-- Juicing is one of the 'hottest' healthy trends.
"Juicing just gives your body an opportunity to take a break. It's about cleansing, it's about hydrating your body, with nutrition and live enzymes. For most of my clients it starts out as a weight loss jumpstart, maybe to get into their skinny jeans or to come off a stretch of unhealthy eating habits. But for many it really turns into a lifestyle," said Alicia Brown, Juicing expert.
"At home you could take a handful of kale, a handful of spinach or handful of romaine, handful of spinach, two green apples and perhaps two lemons and push it through your juicer and put it in your cup and drink it," she said.
It actually tastes okay.
"Disease can't grow in an alkaline environment. Green Juice is one of the best things you do for your body," said Brown.
One of Alicia's signature juices has carrot, apple and lemon and how does one make it at home?
"A handful of carrots, maybe one green apple, one lemon, and put it through your juicer," said Brown.
Kathy Beach started juicing after she was diagnosed with breast cancer and it has helped with her recovery.
"It enables me to get all the micro-nutrients and phytochemicals that are really anti-cancer so when I was research a healthy lifestyle after cancer, this was a big piece of it, because I can't eat this much as you can see with how much goes in here," said Beach.
"The critics say our bodies can push toxins out on their own-absolutely, our bodies have a pretty good infiltration system but unfortunately in today's world we are inundated with things like genetically modified goods, factory farmed foods, processed foods, herbicides, pesticides, so our bodies really have to work overtime to push those out. Every once in awhile a short cleanse gives your body a break," said Brown.
As always moderation is key and be sure to consult with your doctor when you make a change to your diet.
