EAST HAMPTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- The disappearance of 30 year old Jini Barnum is now the focus of a criminal investigation. We are told East Hampton police were busy working this case Wednesday and we also saw a state police canine unit leaving the station.
"She's missing for a while so people are worried," Jayson Baker of East Hampton said.
Barnum, who News 8 has learned just had a baby six weeks ago, was last seen the night of July 28 when she left home after having a fight with her boyfriend.
"Barnum has had no contact with her family or friends since leaving her home," police said in a news release. "The disappearance of Barnum is considered to be the result of a criminal act. A comprehensive criminal investigation is ongoing into the matter."
As police continue to search for Barnum, folks in town are doing the same thing. There are posters on the front doors of several business throughout town. They were handed out by her boyfriend. We were able to track down the house where he and Barnum lived with their infant daughter.
No neighbors were home and on Barnum's door evidence tape seals the apartment shut. News 8 also learned of a marina boaters say was the focus of a local medium who believes Barnum may be nearby.
"She kind of felt the presence, like, she kept saying she thought the missing girl was on this side of the tunnel or the other side and she kind of... she sensed that she was tripped on rocks and she was down in there somewhere," Joe Paradise of East Hampton said.
Another boater tells us police have searched the water near here.
"It's all too close to home that's for sure," Paradise said. "Obviously we hope that the girl gets found soon. Hopefully she's safe."
And so do many others who say they used to see Barnum walking along Main Street. Now all they see is her picture around town.
Barnum is white, around 5'2" and weighs 160 pounds. She has blonde/red hair, wears glasses, and has several tattoos and piercings, police said. She was last seen wearing jeans and a dark colored tee shirt.
Anyone who may have seen her or knows where she is is asked to call the East Hampton Police Department at 860-267-9922.
