MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH)-- A local elementary school takes the classroom outside.
A lesson in the fresh air is a special time for any student.
"It says learn about the world around you, try this, can you find the tree," said a teacher.
At MacDonough Elementary school in Middletown, it's just a regular part of the learning process.
"Look up those leaves, are they pine needles? They are pine needles," said a teacher.
It's called the "Born Learning Trail."
"The goal is to have preschool kids develop emotionally, physically and academically," said Kevin Wilhem, Middlesex United Way.
All by going for a short walk with their teacher.
"There's a sign and each sign you stop, gets them stimulated to that," said Wilhem.
The entire cost of this project was around $1,500 and while that might sound like a lot of money for a few signs, the organizers who helped put it together say it's money well spent to help educate kids differently.
"It's an educational tool to get kids to kind of think and learn, and go a long the way," said Paul Doyle, (D) Wethersfield.
