WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH)-- Classroom learning is valuable, but sometimes there is nothing quite like a hands-on approach.
Cheerful employees greet coffee customers in between filling and delivering orders, then going to class. "Cup of Inspiration," is a cafe inside of a special needs high school run by the students.
"It's so much fun because I get to interact with people and I get to help them and stuff," said Meredith Bump, High Road Academy student.
The cafe is only open to staff at Wallingford's High Road Academy.
And after a month in business, they already have regulars.
"Keeps me coming back everyday, multiple times a day," said Gina Hunn, High Road Academy social worker.
From coffee, tea, and pastries, the cafe has a lot to offer but like many coffee shops this season, one cup of Joe out sells them all.
"Right now pumpkin spice is the number one coffee seller," said Rosemary Schaeffer, High Road Academy program specialist.
Just 25 cents will buy you a cup of inspiration, but the lessons learned there are invaluable.
"I think it's awesome, the room is beautiful, the opportunities that it provides for our students is great, all good tools that they can benefit from moving on in their future," said Hunn.
"Self-esteem and self confidence is so important because once students learn to build on that, it will just open many doors for them," said Schaeffer.
And that is a lesson that will last a lifetime.
"I like school in general, but this school is awesome," said Bump.
