NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-- Driving around in the heat can be a drag, especially if you're having problems with your air conditioner.
Keeping cars cool. That work has kept Mike Caprio and East Rock Auto Repair busy this week. They get about five to six calls a day about air conditioning that stopped working.
"You don't turn it on, so it's one of those things you don't think about until a day like today, when it's 90 degrees," said Caprio.
He says most of the time that is all a car needs, a charge of refreshing air.
"They're just low on refrigerant, which is the gas that travels through the AC system to make it work," said Caprio.
But sometimes it's a bigger problem.
"A lot of times, the reason you lost your gas is because there is a leak," said Caprio.
And that may require replacing parts.
The cool air in the car feels nice on a summer day, but if your air conditioning is blowing hot air or isn't working at all, fixing it can cost between $150 and upwards of $1,000.
"We like to tell our customers, once a year to once every other year to come in and get your AC serviced," said Caprio.
Regular air condition check ups will let the driver fix any problems before they are stuck in a hot car on a hot day.
