EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-- For the second time in a couple of weeks, some neighbors in East Haven are ticked off about a filthy playground. This time, they found everything from drug paraphernalia to dirty diapers and they want something done about it.
"This park is a disgrace. It is a safety hazard and it really seriously need some attention," said Robert Hoff, East Haven resident.
Some East Haven residents are fed-up with a mess piling up at Michael Street Park. Robert Hoff says for months he's tried to get the garbage cleaned up.
"There are alcohol bottles, graffiti on the playground equipment. There are parts of the equipment that are cracked," said Hoff.
The park is full of filth, littered with beer bottles, diapers and trash. Vandals spray painted words you wouldn't want your children to see.
"I found cigarettes and beer bottles on the plays-cape and swear words written all over the sides," said Katherine Garcia, East Haven resident.
"We always go on the little green swings and we see bad words," said Donna Garcia, East Haven resident.
Neighborhood children say that they're scared to play in the park.
"So we don't feel that safe to be like running around because we are sure that we might fall and think it'll really hurt," said Garcia.
East Haven city officials tell News 8 they are in the process of making repairs. Residents say they just want a safe environment for the children.
"I want this part cleaned up, made safe for the children to come and have a safe place to use where their parents don't have to fear sending them off to the park," said Hoff.
