New Haven, Conn (WTNH) - There are new details in the investigation into a triple fatal fire in New Haven earlier this month. A teenage girl's phone was seized Tuesday in connection with that fire.
A New Haven teenager is speaking out about a deadly fire on Wolcott Street on March 9th, saying she had nothing to do with it.
The teen says police came to her school and seized her cell phone Tuesday in connection with the fire.
"They got my phone. I'm not hiding nothing," teen Dorothy Taylor said.
Taylor spoke with News 8 outside New Haven police headquarters after being released on charges of breach of peace. She was arrested at school after she got into a fight with police after refusing to give up a cell phone. Her mother called News 8 and showed us the warrant.
"Obviously, they would have put me in jail if it was that serious, if they found out there was three people dead in that house. Does it look I just killed 3 people and came on the news," Taylor said.
Taylor's mother says her daughter has already been interviewed by police about the fire. As a mother she's upset because police released her underage daughter without a parent or guardian.
"I know this is their job, but why have her here? Why come to my daughter's school? No one called me to let me know what was going on or anything," Dorothy's mother, Barbara Murray said. When asked if she thought her daughter had anything to do with the fire, Murray answered, "She has nothing to do with the fire. This has something to do with helping [Dorothy's friend] Rieta out as a friend."
The night after the fire, Murray says one of the teenage victims stayed at her house until she had a place to go. She says tensions are still very high over this loss, and Murray says she and her family are now being harassed by others in their Fair Haven neighborhood.
"I want everyone to know we have nothing to do with this. It's very painful. It feels like they are basically putting their death upon me, and I don't have nothing to do with it," said Murray.
New Haven police say that because the situation involves a minor they can't comment, or comment if the phone was seized in connection with the fire. They would only say that the fire investigation is ongoing and is in the hands of a federal task force.
