BEACON FALLS, Conn. (WTNH)-- A Seymour mother is facing charges for nearly choking her baby to death. Officials say two police officers saved the child's life.
"I don't know what I would've done if it happened here," said Jack Labowski.
Jack Labowski is calling the two Seymour policemen, Officer James Duda and Sgt. David Parratt, heroes.
Labowski lives across the street from 20-year-old Ashley Donovan, who police say was strangling her eight-day-old baby in the middle of a Beacon Falls street. State police called Seymour for help.
"They just thought it was a domestic disturbance call. Low and behold it was more," said Leiutenant Paul Satkowski.
It's one of the most terrifying calls the veteran policemen were sent to. They say Donovan, who they learned is suffering from post partum depression, was out of control.
"At one point, even begins to choke the baby, and he turned blue and red," said Satkowski.
Police say once they got the baby away from Donovan, she was aggressively pulling at his clothes trying to get him back.
News 8 went to Donovan's house where neighbors say she lives with her boyfriend. A woman came to the door. All she would say is she's the baby's aunt.
Across the street, Labowski says Donovan has another child, and this was the last thing he expected.
"They used to come down and play with her, and I never noticed anything," said Labowski.
Donovan will be in court Tuesday, where she faces many charges including reckless endangerment and strangulation.
