Sterling (WTNH) - It's that time of year when miracles happen in the mostunexpected places. A Sterling farmer found a divine sign in amanger.
Exactly one week ago, Tuesday, in a Sterling manger a blessedevent: young Moses, the calf, was born. The rambunctious littlecalf was different from all the others from the start.
"He's a very affectionate calf and he really looks at youwhen you talk to him and he has that look in his eye like he wantsto tell you something," said Megan Johnson of Sterling. "Heunderstands."
And there was something else; something the longtime farmershad never seen before: a divine bovine.
"Later in the morning after he dried off and his hair went backinto place around 9:00, 9:30 a.m., then we saw the cross was veryobvious and it was really quite an eye opener," said Brad Davis ofSterling.
The cross is as clear as day on the forehead of theJersey-Holstein mix. But the more spiritual event came that firstnight.
"The moon was out that night and there was a little bit ofthe moonlight coming in through the windows and his cross was theonly thing that showed," said Davis.
It's a sacred cow of sorts.
Usually the Sterling farmers sell their bull calves but thisone may have a higher calling. The mark on Moses' forehead couldbring masses to the struggling Sterling farm seeking meaning in thedivine sign but his owners hope it will instead bring attention tothe plight of the farmer; the struggles with higher costs of feedand equipment.
"I think he may be here to open people's eyes and get amessage across. Maybe something for farmers? For the dairy farmerspossibly that there is hope and the answers are still coming," saidDavis.
Answers like legislation to raise milk prices.
Moses is part of a working dairy farm so the folks who run itare sort of hoping there won't be any huge pilgrimage to seehim.
