LEBANON, Conn. (WTNH) -- It was more than the parishioners being moved at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran church in Lebanon. After utility lines were dropped, the church was rolled out of its old foundation and across the street.
"Amazing that truck so small is moving church and even though backing up is hard I would say I don't think it would normally take this slow to back up," said James Brennan, parishioner.
The church is taking its place next to the Fellowship Hall built just a few years ago.
Backing the church down the dirt incline so it can roll right onto the foundation was the tricky part.
"Really nervous right now," said Charlie Bender, parishioner. "When they back that thing down the slope that's the part that's been bothering me for quite a while."
Bender continued on to say, "I think everybody's doing a little bit of praying."
After several nerve wracking moving moments and adjustments to both the truck and the landscape, the church which started three other churches in the area, was safely situated where it can now start a new era for the congregation.
"We've been planning this for three or four years now," said parishioner Al Macke, "it's wonderful to see it come to fruition."
Its fate was guided by Eastman Building Movers out of Rhode Island.
"This shows me why we put our faith in them," said Pastor Scott Schuett.
"Any help from above," asked News 8's Tina Detelj.
"Oh lots of it. Weather's great," Schuett said laughing.
Another reason to rejoice.
