Mystic, Conn. (WTNH) - A bridge in the Mystic section of Groton wiped out by the floods in March still remains closed.
Isabel Magee remembers the day when the small pond turned into a raging river wiping out the bridge on River Road.
"The water was just coming out of the stone like a waterfall," she said.
Seven months later the town is still working on a plan to get the road open again.
"It's just gonna be a long haul you know the bus doesn't come to the house any more for the kids and we're not looking forward to the next phase of construction," Magee said.
Town councilors will soon be voting on a plan to fix the bridge by the end of next summer, but first a temporary fix to get one lane open as soon as possible.
"It's time consuming because of the permitting process. We're going to try to hustle it along as quick as we can," said Mayor Jim Streeter (R-Groton).
Some cyclists and runners are actually enjoying the scenic road without all the traffic zipping by.
"Actually, I like it better because you can run right down the center of the road and it's like you have your own private little running path here," said Pete Perri of Mystic.
The permanent fix may not come until next August, but in the meantime a temporary fix could mean the one lane may be open to vehicles, not just runners and cyclists.
