NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH)-- Some neighbors in Norwich were fed up about prostitution in their neighborhood and went to police. Police there say they arrested a male prostitute dressed as a woman.
Folks who live in a section of Norwich say they're sick of it. Prostitution seen day and night and they're happy to see something being done about it.
A woman, who didn't want her name used, lived in the Greenville section of Norwich her whole life and she's seen the prostitution problem grow.
"My kids don't even want to go to the bus stop anymore, about school cause they see it everyday. Ya know and it's really bad. Morning, noon, night," said the woman.
She's glad to see police go under cover to clean up these streets. On Wednesday night, 36-year-old Lamont Bulerin, who police say dresses as a woman, was arrested.
"He's very well known," said the woman.
Bulerin is also well known to police. A plain clothes officer reportedly approached him on Central Avenue and police say an agreement was made.
Police arrested Bulerin in an area near Hamilton Avenue during a traffic stop. That was just a few minutes after and a few blocks over from where the alleged deal was made.
"We see it go on everyday. Getting in the car, out of the car. My seven-year-old asks me questions. It's not good," said the woman.
The undercover sting comes after a number of complaints from residents who say they've seen the same thing.
"Prostitution comes with other bad things so we are really glad police are taking action on that kind of things," said Benjamin Rivera, King's Cuts.
One business owner says she hears more about prostitution than actually sees it and she says she also hears that some of the nearby businesses are just fronts for illegal activity.
