GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- Motorcycles will be roaring in Groton this weekend to raise money for 'little hearts.' They're helping children with heart conditions and their families.
The ride doesn't cost much, $20 if you're riding alone or an extra $5 if you have someone on back, but that little bit of money definitely adds up to make a big difference for families.
"Babies heart run," said Isabella Bills.
"Oh yeah, what's that all about," asked News 8's Tina Detelj.
"We help family," Isabella said.
Four-year-old Isabella knows all about the Babies Heart Run.
"I'm going to sell tickets," she said.
You could say she's been part of it from the start.
"She has SVT, which is supra-ventricular tachycardia, which means her heart is always constantly beating too fast," said Nina Bills, Babies Heart Run.
It also means Nina and Jay Bills spent many days going to the Yale-New Haven NICU from Groton. Since they both work there was no financial help for them.
"Even if someone had given us a hundred dollar gas card it would have been great," Nina said.
So they started the motorcycle ride. Last year they raised $14,000 for 17 families going through the same struggles.
"It means a lot and we're just so happy to be able to help people and it's really become a great community event, sorry," said an emotional Nina.
"Thinking about the kids," asked Detelj.
"I am, yeah, and the parents and just what they're going through," Nina said. "It's really hard."
Of course the inspiration for the run is Isabella.
They hope to see as many as 500 bikes and classic cars come to Fitch High School in Groton Sunday morning at 10.
"My mom's going to do the face painting," Isabella said.
Then they'll ride to Christopher's for an afternoon of fun.
"We want people to have fun and have an awesome day," Isabella said.
