Stratford (WTNH) - He's accused by a growing number of clients, of leaving them ina legal lurch. There are indications that a missing Stratfordlawyer is still in Connecticut and very well aware of the problemshe's accused of causing.
A caller identifying himself as Attorney John Rodia says he'sstill right here in Connecticut. Where, we don't know. The problemis - neither does his clients or law enforcement.
For months now, clients of Stratford attorney John Rodia havedesperately been trying to reach him.
In the case of Thomas and Deborah Turner, the question is whydidn't Rodia pay off their old mortgage to the tune of $124,000after a re-finance?
In the case of another Stratford woman, the question is about amissed court date.
In the case of Ralph Paolella, the question is why didn't Rodiareturn money from a real estate transaction Paolella was involvedin?
"I begged and pleaded somebody get back to me," Paolella said."It's not about the money, it's about my life."
The attorney general's office has now received close to 15complaints about Rodia since News Channel 8 first reported thestory last week.
His Stratford office is closed and locked. So where is JohnRodia?
We've received a number of calls and voice mail messages from aman claiming to be the missing attorney from a cell phone numberclients say belongs to him.
"I fully understand the severity of the charges," the voice mailsaid, " I have every intention to fully cooperate with whoeverinvestigates and I will do everything in my power to correct thesituation."
Rodia says he's in the process of obtaining an attorney. Hewon't specifically say why he suddenly left his practice and hisclients in a lurch. And he doesn't say where he is right now exceptthat he's in Connecticut.
"I'm not leaving Connecticut, I'm not running from anything," hesaid. "I will do everything in my power to make the situationright."
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal told News Channel 8 hisinvestigators have also been in touch by phone with a man who theybelieve is John Rodia and that he expressed similar sentiments;that he knows there's a real mess and he wants to cooperate.
Right now the Attorney General is going over the complaintsfiled with his office and News Channel 8 should have a better ideaof how many clients have had problems and how much money isinvolved in a few days.
