HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- The Democrats fighting for their party's US Senate nomination were out campaigning for votes on Monday, the day before the primary.
Once again Susan Bysiewicz is the challenger to the party endorsed candidate.
Chris Murphy has the backing of Democratic leaders in his run for the seat being left vacant by retiring Senator Joseph Lieberman.
"I just think right now we are in the fight for the survival of the middle class and I want to know that my two little boys are going to be able to grow up and live the American dream," said Murphy, "and I think it's at risk."
Murphy is ahead in the polls over the former Secretary of State, but that and the lack of her party's endorsement isn't stopping Bysiewicz from taking on the fight. She's done it before and won.
"What I bring is a record of making things happen," said Bysiewicz, "like banning lobbyist contributions, like banning drive through mastectomies."
The scene at both camps is similar: volunteers working the phones armed with a list of all registered Democrats. They're trying to get folks out to the polls and trying to get them to vote for their candidate.
Murphy may benefit from an attack ad launched by Bysiewicz which contained a factual error about hedge fund money Murphy has received.
"Susan's attack ad on me was disastrous," Murphy said. "It was a lie, she admitted it was a lie, and she refused to take it down."
"Any backlash regarding the ad, the attack ad," asked News 8's Tina Detelj.
"You know we've been getting incredible support from people who are saying they love our ads especially about the work that I've done," said Bysiewicz.
About domestic violence and helping domestic violence victims.
Bysiewicz has moved on, but have voters?
Polls open Tuesday at 6 a.m.
