NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)-- The early results are in for the New Haven mayoral race and State Senator Toni Harp came out as the winner of the Democratic Primary.
As expected, Harp was far ahead of her challengers Tuesday night. She captured about half of the votes.
Alderman Justin Elicker brought in about 23 percent, followed by Henry Fernandez and Kermit Carolina.
Toni Harp and her supporters celebrated at Keys to the City in New Haven.
New Haven Primary Results:
- Harp: 7,327
- Elicker: 3,417
- Fernandez: 2,782
- Carolina: 1,195
- Turnout: 29.4%
In West Haven, four-term mayor John Picard came up just 12 votes short of challenger Ed O'Brien. That means there's automatically going to be a recount.
In East Haven, Jack Stacey has won the Democratic primary against retired East Haven Police Sergeant Gary DePalma. Stacey is a high school teacher and was the party-endorsed candidate. He will face Republican Mayor Joe Maturo in November.
