STORRS, Conn. (WTNH)-- A record setting start for the freshman at UConn. And it's not just because they have the biggest class the university has ever seen.
Each year it seems UConn becomes harder and harder to get into, and each freshman class becomes more and more outstanding. Well this one seems to be the top of the class.
UConn says the class of 2017 is the most academically accomplished in the school's history, high ranking high school students are now on campus.

When asked what his SAT score was, David Benedetti, a freshman said, "not very high actually, the total for them was about 1670 actually."
Actually David Benedetti's score helped bring up the average SAT score -1233 - which is among one of the records broken by this incoming class. It also has the highest number of valedictorians, salutatorians, and honor students and is the most diverse class.
"Let's hope, I mean it's a big honor but we'll try. Just go to class, try our best, meet new people, try new things. It's all about the college experience," said Benedetti.
UConn continues to consist of mostly in state students like Benedetti from Canton. 78 percent are from Connecticut, while 22 percent are from out of state.
Aaron Ovsiew is from Arlington, Virginia.
"I'm ready. I'm excited for cold winter, cause this is one of the coldest spots in the state. Yeah I heard," said Ovsiew.
Even the best and brightest know they still have a lot to learn there and there are plenty of upper class-men to share their wisdom.
"The campus seems so big but like anything else, once you adapt to it and everything, it's so small. There are so many shortcuts out and everything, and everybody is always willing to help each other out," said Nicole Mazzari, a junior.
And maybe someday in the near future the freshman of today will be giving their own advice to an incoming class also named the most outstanding.
