(WTNH) -- If this week's warm weather had you double-checking your calendar let Hilkka's pumpkin pictures be proof that October is here. Still, the sunny skies seemed more appropriate this past week for beach-reading than for leaf-peeping, for hanging out by the shore rather than playing in the leaves.

Mike in Waterbury showed us a truck that needed to be pulled out of the woods off I-84 on Thursday morning. That was one of several crashes that caused problems in Connecticut this week, a week that featured a tougher than usual commute thanks to the ongoing track trouble with Metro-North. They are making progress, as they are in New Haven where Patrick provided an update on the work to put speed bumps on Lawncrest Road. Delays there had led neighbors to complain to News 8.
We're not complaining, just curious about all the praying mantis pics you've sent us recently.
Finally, we'll take a moment to visit some of the many events around Connecticut last weekend, from the Durham Fair to the Renaissance Fair. It was perfect for Open Farm Days at the Six Paca Farm in Bozrah and the Harvest Fair in Stratford, and ideal for the Petit Foundation's Ride for Justice and the Buddy Walk at Hammonasset. We got pictures from all of them.
We may have gotten pictures from everyone who took part in the Walk to End Alzheimer's at New Haven's Lighthouse Point Park Sunday. Kids, parents, grandparents, even a few pets -- most of people wearing purple -- everyone walking with purpose, planting a Promise Garden, and coming together for a cause.
