HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Gov. Dannel Malloy on Thursday ordered the Department of Transportation to halt to routine road work on I-95, the Merritt Parkway, and other state roads in Fairfield County during to ease traffic flow while Metro-North deals with its power outage.
Included in the stop work order is the lane widening project on I-95 in Norwalk.
“Needless to say, I am frustrated at this situation and continue to press the folks at Con Ed and Metro-North to fix it as quickly as possible," Gov. Malloy said in a statement. "But until the problems are alleviated, we need to take whatever steps we can to help mitigate congestion on roadways."
What this means is that tasks such as mowing, trimming trees, and painting lines, won't happen for now. Maintenance work on bridges will continue during overnight hours.
The roads included in the stop work directive include:
- Merritt Parkway
- Route 1 / Boston Post Road
- Route 7
- Route 123
- Other busy secondary roads
The DOT reported to the governor's office that traffic on the Merritt and I-95 was only slightly heavier that normal for the morning rush hour.
