EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Folks hard hit by Tropical Storm Irene can't help but feel a little deja vu. Just over a year after Irene wrecked houses and left folks in the dark for a week, people along the shoreline are stocking up for Sandy, and preparing for the worst.
Could lightning strike twice? Cosey Beach residents in East Haven are eying a very worrisome weather forecast.
"Maybe it will come and maybe not," said Fred Weidneo.
"The conditions, if they're right again, the moon, the double high tide and the high winds, then this whole area's gonna, you know, stands a very good chance of getting hit again," said Maryann Rapuano.
Houses turned into a pile of match sticks when Irene slammed into the shoreline just one year and two months ago.
"Oh, four feet front to back," Rapuano said.
She says she had major flood damage and it took months to get the house in working condition again. Many along the coastal spot have just come back, including one house that was put up Thursday.
"It took that long to get things going down here, I mean, if we get hit this weekend, it's not gonna be a good thing," Rapuano said.
Fred Weidneo says he's prepared.
"Generator and gas and I'm ready," Weidneo said.
After two weeks without electricity last year, he'd had enough. He's ready now, but like everyone there he's still hoping not to be in the bulls-eye again.
"I'm not doing it again, though, this is a quote, I'm moving out," Rapuano said laughing.
