Brittany Schaefer

Brittany Schaefer joined the WTNH News 8 Team in October 2022, after more than three years at sister station WPRI in Rhode Island.

Brittany is an Emmy-nominated reporter who started her dream career back in 2015. Her first stop on the New England career tour was at Spectrum News in Worcester, Massachusetts. She spent four years there as an anchor and reporter.

Brittany then moved south to the Ocean State where she was the lead noon and evening newscast reporter and fill-in anchor. There she covered the pandemic from just over Connecticut’s border often working alongside News 8 when the RI/CT border closed.

She has covered thousands of stories including many that stick with her today, from both police and fire line of duty deaths to horrific homicides and car accidents that rock small communities to heartwarming stories of strangers helping strangers through organ donations or keeping people in need out of the cold.

Her broadcast journalism career began immediately after she earned her degree in Journalism and Communications from the University of New Hampshire. Despite living in Southern CT, hearing UNH will never make her initially think of the University of New Haven.

While at school, Brittany wrote for the school newspaper, ironically called The New Hampshire or TNH, and interned at WMUR-TV in Manchester, NH, and NHPTV in Durham, NH.

Brittany has fallen in love with Connecticut and feels at home already! When she’s not working, you can find her at the beach, trying out a new restaurant, or playing with her mini golden retriever, Brady. Say hello or send a story idea by connecting with her on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
