News 8 welcomed Scott McDonnell as the new co-anchor of the 6pm news alongside Ann Nyberg in January of 2016.
McDonnell is a bay state native, originally from Upton, MA, a small town about 45 minutes outside Boston. During his career in television news, Scott has worked in Springfield, MA, Pennsylvania, Orlando, and Kansas City.
Outside the newsroom, Scott can be found in or on, the golf course, a CrossFit gym or the lake – fishing. McDonnell grew up a Red Sox / Celtics / Pats fan, but after a few years in Kansas City watching the Royals roll to a World Series title, he says it’s tough not to have some love for KC. The passion of the fans there is wildly contagious.
Scott is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, at what he call a “beautiful Kingston campus nestled not far from the Narragansett shoreline”. Causes close to his heart include Gilda’s Club, The Ronald McDonald House, and The Herren Project.
