Canton residents are now allowed to have packages sent to the police station.

It’s all in an effort to prevent thieves from stealing packages from doorsteps.

Police say the “Holiday Package Safe Delivery Program” is a win-win.

“It reduces our case load in terms of investigations with larceny. We had quite a bit last year and hopefully expanding the program will help reduce that as well,” says Sgt. Derek Messier of the Canton Police Department.

“I think that’s really good because then it’s safe for us,” from Canton resident Madison Vanhorn.

If you live in Canton, you can stop by the police station and show your ID to pick up your package between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. seven days a week.

The program runs from today through December 24th.
