NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — It’s back to school time! Most parents are starting to think about notebooks, pens, pencils so that their kids are equipped and ready to learn. But did you know that good nutrition and physical activity is just as important to education? Kids need 60 minutes of physical activity a day and they need to fuel their minds with good nutrition.
Since kids spend most of their day in the school building, school is the perfect place to help them get the nutrition and activity they need. The dairy farm families of CT and the NFL have teamed up to help schools do this through Fuel Up To Play 60. Fuel Up To Play 60 is a unique school wellness program because it is student led.
In addition, schools can apply for up to $4,000 to help make sustainable changes to the school environment that will encourage students to eat healthy and to move 60 minutes a day.
New England Dairy & Food Council is staffed with registered dietitians and is funded by the dairy farmers of New England and upstate New York, including the dairy farm families of Connecticut.
