Like many people, Hernan Illingworth always planned on losing weight, but he never took the steps needed to change his life. That is, until this year when he joined The Edge Fitness Clubs.

“For probably, literally the truth, about 15, 20 years I’ve been saying, ‘This is the year,’” Illingworth recalled.

At his heaviest, he weighed 318 pounds.

“My body was just breaking down,” Illingworth explained. “My knees, arthritis, and it just takes a toll on your whole family.”

But in January, Illingworth walked into The Edge Fitness Clubs, ready to take action.

“He was motivated, totally motivated,” said Edge Fitness trainer Ryan Weiss. He showed up every single day. I would hound him. The first week, two weeks, I’d call him every morning at 4 am. ‘Get your butt to the gym.’ 

But Weiss says after the first two weeks, he didn’t need to call him anymore. 

“He bought in,” Weiss explained. “He wanted to change his life and that’s where it really starts.”

Illingworth has been working with Weiss both in individual sessions and during the most recent Edge Weight Loss Challenge, an eight-week program where teams compete to lose weight.

“My favorite part of the challenge was the Saturday workouts,” Illingworth said. This is where we come together. We really work out no matter what team you’re on. You all supported each other when we’re down. We just give each other the fist, ‘Come on, you can do it.’

Since January 5, Illingworth has lost 44 pounds

“My ultimate goal is to lose 100 pounds,” he said.

Hernan’s goal of 100 pounds is definitely going to be achieved,” Weiss said. We set out to do it in a year. The way he started, we’re actually on pace to do it in about six to eight months. 

Illingworth’s success is proof that it’s never too late to turn your life around.

Hernan is 48 and by 50, I guarantee he’ll be in better shape than he’s ever been before,” Weiss said.

“This is definitely the journey I definitely want to continue,” Illingworth said. “I don’t see myself going backwards.”
