In The Kitchen: RDTV presents New Year, New You

In the Kitchen

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — It’s a New Year and time to check in on those Resolutions! Statistics show, the majority of Americans have vowed to eat healthier.

Joining us in the kitchen with ways to do just that with some delicious twists, is Registered Dietitian, Toby Amidor, with RDTV.

What’s your best advice to help keep us on track with our health and diet goals? Toby Amidor says, “Quality ingredients are key!” I love incorporating avocados into any menu because they’re a heart healthy fruit that contributes good fats, and they’re also a good source of dietary fiber and folic acid.

Here’s a great tip: when you remove the pit of an avocado, you have the perfect space for a snack!  You can make any flavor profile– go for savory and bake an egg right into the avocado— or add some cottage cheese with sunflower seeds and diced fruit. Not only do they taste great, avocados are nutrient dense and contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals along with plant nutrients.

What about a grab and go option? Premier Protein Shakes are a must have! The shakes are perfect not just for breakfast on the go, but also as an afternoon snack or a post-workout boost.  They are packed with 30g of protein, 160 calories and 1g of sugar and come in delicious flavors like Chocolate, Peaches & Cream and Caramel.

Premier Protein understands that starting a healthy habit isn’t easy and is here to make the first day – and all of the days after – much easier by providing the right tools and great tasting products to get you started and help you stay on track, and that’s something I can get behind as a Registered Dietitian. When it comes to meal planning how can we creatively get more veggies into the menu? It’s simple and easy when you have Birds Eye on your side like Birds Eye Fresh Frozen Select Vegetables Mixed Vegetables

They are easy to prepare and help keep you on track with your Resolutions! They’re great as a side dish or as a star ingredient in your winter recipes like this Wagon Wheel Turkey Veggie Soup. It’s the perfect mix of vegetables with corn, carrots, green beans and peas.  And because they contain no artificial preservatives or ingredients, they are a good source of Vitamin C and kosher certified.
