This holiday season Ethan Allen is bringing things back to a more nostalgic time with their two new retro furniture collections.
“The mid-century modern look is a retro look inspired by bold silhouettes and patterns,” explained design consultant Sonia Paul. “Our Uptown collection is more of an art deco look. It is Hollywood regency at its finest.”
For each collection, Paul created a unique holiday look.
“As far as Uptown is concerned, what we’ve done is we’ve kept it simple,” Paul said. “We’ve kept a lot of the color out of the Christmas decor and we’ve left it with metals, beautiful white lights, some silver and gold and a little sparkle and glitz.”
This style evokes old Hollywood glamour, and features gorgeous candles to set the mood, as well as gold touches.
“We’re pulling things out tastefully things that we maybe haven’t pulled out in design in Christmas for a while,” Paul said.
Things like Paul’s grandmother’s doilies.
“I’ve used them as coasters to add a little knitted texture to the table,” Paul explained.
In contrast to the uptown collection, Paul opted for bold colors in the mid-century modern room.
“The big light bulbs from the 1980s, we really brought back,” Paul explained. “In terms of your table setting, you really can try to thing outside the box and do something unexpected.”
For example, use an Ethan Allen display box to collect a family recipe from each of your guests.
“And at the end of dinner, have everyone pick a recipe out of the box so they get to go home with a new recipe,” Paul said.
Another idea is to create a new use for beautiful glass hurricanes, which normally serve as candle holders.
“My favorite thing to do is filling them with fresh cranberries and some fresh greenery, using them as a wine chiller,” Paul explained.
