At the Movies – “Long Shots” and “Ugly Dolls”

Who would be crazy enough to take on the ‘Avengers‘ this weekend? The ‘Green Hornet!’

Ok, so no one saw that movie but it starred Seth Rogen and in “Long Shots” he’s got Charlize Theron by his side. The rom com – oh yeah, rom com; he did rise to fame as Katherine Heigl‘s love interest in “Knocked Up,” don’t forget – is about Charlotte Fields, a secretary of state with her eye on the White House.

Her campaign brings on a speechwriter who just so happens to be this schlub Charlotte used to babysit. He’s still got that babysitter crush thing going on and, what’s more, she just might be receptive now, to the horror of the field PR team. Lots of comedic backing too, with Lisa Kudrow, Ravi Patel and Even O’Shea Jackson Jr, Ice Cube‘s son. You will not be asking “Are We There Yet?”

For the kiddies there’s “Ugly Dolls,” based on the plush toys of the same name. Why would they want to be called ugly, after all? We also find out they live one town over from a place called Perfection, so learning to love themselves for who they are is a long time coming. It stars Nick Jonas, Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Bebe Rexa and Pitbull, which sounds like the worst concert ever.

“Long Shots” is rated R and “Ugly Dolls” PG.
